Liu Qi, male, ethnic Han, native of Wujin, Jiangsu Province, born in November 1942. Joined the CPC in September 1975 and began working in June 1968. Graduated from the Metallurgical Department of Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Engineering, majoring in iron smelting. With a postgraduate education. Senior engineer with a rank equivalent to professor.

Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, chairman of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the XXIX Olympiad, and secretary of the committee's Leading Party Members' Group.

1959-1964 Student of the Metallurgical Department of Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Engineering, majoring in iron and steel metallurgy

1964-1968 Postgraduate of the Metallurgical Department of Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Engineering, majoring in iron smelting

1968-1978 Gas controller, furnaceman and section chief of No. 2Blast Furnace of the Steel Works of Wuhan Iron and Steel Company

1978-1983 Technician and deputy head of No. 3 Blast Furnace of the Steel Works of Wuhan Iron and Steel Company

1983-1985 Deputy director of the Steel Works and head of the Production Department of Wuhan Iron and Steel Company

1985-1990 Executive deputy manager of Wuhan Iron and Steel Company and member of the Standing Committee of the company's CPC committee

1990-1993 Manager of Wuhan Iron and Steel Company and member of the Standing Committee of the company's CPC committee

1993-1998 Minister and secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry

1998-1999 Deputy secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and vice mayor of Beijing

1999-2001 Deputy secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and mayor of Beijing
