The First Plenary Session of the 17th Central Committee

The First Plenum of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China determined the Party's core leadership

A total of 204 members and 167 alternate members of the 17th CPC Central Committee attended the plenum. One hundred and twenty-seven members of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) attended as non-voting delegates.

The plenum elected members of the Political Bureau of the 17th CPC Central Committee, members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau and CPC general secretary. According to the nomination of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the 17th CPC Central Committee, the plenum approved the members of the Secretariat of the 17th Central Committee of the CPC. The plenum decided on the composition of the CPC Central Military Commission. It also approved the secretary, deputy secretaries and members of the CCDI Standing Committee all elected by the First Plenum of the CCDI.

Members of the Political Bureau of the 17th CPC Central Committee are (listed in the order of the number of strokes in their surnames): Xi Jinping, Wang Gang, Wang Lequan, Wang Zhaoguo, Wang Qishan, Hui Liangyu (Hui), Liu Qi, Liu Yunshan, Liu Yandong (female), Li Changchun, Li Keqiang, Li Yuanchao, Wu Bangguo, Wang Yang, Zhang Gaoli, Zhang Dejiang, Zhou Yongkang, Hu Jintao, Yu Zhengsheng, He Guoqiang, Jia Qinglin, Xu Caihou, Guo Boxiong, Wen Jiabao and Bo Xilai.

Among them, Hu Jintao, Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang are members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the 17th CPC Central Committee. (See page 25-34 for their resumes)

Hu was elected general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission for a second term.

Xi Jinping, Liu Yunshan, Li Yuanchao, He Yong, Ling Jihua and Wang Huning were elected members of the Secretariat of the 17th Central Committee of the CPC.

The CPC Central Military Commission is also composed of vice chairmen Guo Boxiong and Xu Caihou, as well as members Liang Guanglie, Chen Bingde, Li Ji'nai, Liao Xilong, Chang Wanquan, Jing Zhiyuan, Wu Shengli and Xu Qiliang.

He Guoqiang was named secretary of the CCDI. The commission's deputy secretaries include He Yong, Zhang Huixin, Ma Wen (female), Sun Zhongtong, Gan Yisheng, Zhang Yi, Huang Shuxian and Li Yufu.
