Thirty-five-year-old Guo Li is a narrator working at the Summer Palace. Starting from May this year, Guo became a narrator for Party history at the All for the People exhibition. It was co-organized by the Communist Party of China (CPC) Beijing Municipal Committee's Organization Department, Publicity Department and Party History Research Center, as well as the Beijing Municipal Archives.

Covering over 6,000 square meters, the exhibition, which ran from June 26 to August 31 at China Millennium Monument Museum, presented some 1,500 pictures, over 400 exhibits and 20 video clips on the CPC's history and development in Beijing.

"The exhibition was initiated last year and officially launched in February this year," said Lu Bing, chief designer and coordinator.

"Our team had a lot of creative ideas on ways of presenting, which had never been applied for exhibitions like this before. For example, we installed a massive touch screen information hub; we served free tea in the authentic Old Beijing way in a reconstruction of a traditional Beijing-style tea house," he said.

"All the staff, including narrators, are volunteers. In order to save energy, there is no printed exhibition brochure available here. Instead, we offered paper fans with exhibition information. Visitors could either keep it as a souvenir or return it to us for reuse. Although the time for preparation was pressing, we had managed to realize our vision. Some 600,000 visitors had been here during the past 60 days, and the feedback has been positive," he said.

Guo Li has some fresh ideas on her job through the four-month Party history narration.

"I recited and repeated the script at the very beginning," Guo said. "My job is to help visitors understand how people's life had sea changes over the past 90 years with the Party's help. I was more than happy to see visitors were moved by my narration when they saw replicas of old-fashioned residential apartments from the 1960s, and their feedback motivated me as well. I finished my job, but not perfectly, because I am not familiar with a lot of background information even though I am a local Beijinger. If I were given more time, I would probably have made my performance better."

Zhang Yanhua, a senior Party member, wrote down her feedback with an electronic stylus at the conclusion of the tour.

"I've heard of this exhibition for a long time," Zhang said. "And I feel very excited to be here today. It helped me to know more about the Party's history. As a senior Party member, I am truly proud of what the Party has achieved during the past 90 years."
