Global sales of electric vehicles (EVs) declined by 7 percent year on year in the first quarter (Q1) of 2020 to around 576,500 units. While EV sales in the United States and China saw a drop, Europe's five largest markets, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Britain, still registered an increase of EV sales by 58 percent to 313,000 units in Q1.
Profits of China's three top mobile operators totaled around 32.5 billion yuan year on year in Q1, with rising 5G subscribers. Affected by the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) epidemic, China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom saw net profits decrease by 0.8 percent, 2.2 percent and 13.9 percent, respectively, in Q1.
Shanghai has added 40,000 license plates of non-commercial vehicles to its annual quotas for the year to spur car sales. The new policy was
implemented in March, with more license plates issued in March and April compared with that in the past. Shanghai is also promoting new-energy vehicles, which are not subject to license plate restrictions.
