If You Are the One II
Share

"One is the first, two is the second" (literally Yi Shi Yi, Er Shi Er in Chinese), meaning "It's definitely a different story," is the catch line for promoting Chinese director Feng Xiaogang's upcoming drama-comedy If You Are the One II. It was publicized at the news conference where the first trailer of the film was released on November 9.

Within the 1'36" trailer, only 26 seconds are from the sequel and the scene is that of the leading heroine, Liang Xiaoxiao (Shu Qi) is being proposed by Qin Fen (Ge You).

At the conference, director Feng did not disclose any other plots from the drama. He believes, however, that the phrase of "Cang Sun is so wonderful, pity it's so close to the night" will be riveting for the public, just like previous catchphrases were popular since his films had been showed on the big screen. He explained that Cang Sun was a phrase from the Beijing dialect meaning, "aged men."

He shared that after 10 years, the cooperation was motivating and uplifting with the writer, Wang Shuo. "He was in charge of writing, while I added my opinions every now and then", he said. "It was the thoughts the two Cang Sun felt about life."

During the event, Feng made the handprint to symbolize the new 5-years' contract re-signed with his old company, Huayi Brothers. The brother bosses, Wang Zhongjun and Wang Zhonglei, arrived for the ceremony.

Feng said the friendships among the brothers and him were unusual and they not only concentrated on the business interests. "I must be sick if I leave at this point, after we established this company at this scale and influence," said Feng.

"If You Are the One II is the last work from his previous contract, and the new one is for five more films to be produced in 7 or 8 years. So I might still be employed when Wang Zhongjun retires," he joked.

Three new films from three famous Chinese directors -- Feng Xiaogang, Jiang Wen and Chen Kaige - will hit Chinese cinemas in December. Instead of competing at the box office, Feng said three of them reached an agreement to buy tickets for supporting the works of the other two.

The sequel will come on December 22.
