China has lodged stern representations with the United States over its official exchanges with Taiwan, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on June 12.

According to reports, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Culture Affairs Marie Royce attended the dedication ceremony of the new office complex of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) earlier on June 12.

Spokesperson Geng Shuang told a daily news briefing that China is deeply concerned about and has lodged stern representations with the United States over the issue.

Any official exchange between the United States and Taiwan under any excuse is a violation to the one-China principle and the three joint communiques between China and the United States, and an intervention in China's internal affairs, Geng said.

"We urge the United States to honor its pledges made to China on the Taiwan issue, correct its wrong practices to avoid damaging China-U.S. relations as well as peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait," said Geng.
