Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China has transmitted 80 billion kWh of electricity generated by green energy from 2011, according to the State Grid's Xinjiang branch.

The electricity, which was mainly generated by wind and solar power, helped reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 69.12 million tonnes and sulfur dioxide by more than 218,000 tonnes, the State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Co. Ltd., said.

The installed generating capacity of green energy in Xinjiang exceeded 30 million KW, said the power company.

Xinjiang started to transmit green energy out of the region in 2011, and large-scale power transmission started in 2014 when a transmission project was put into operation between Hami City in eastern Xinjiang and Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan Province in central China
