Hello and welcome to the 7th issue of Beijing Review.
Photo from Xinhua News Agency COVER STORY Bona Fide Intelligence is about the growth of China’s artificial intelligence industry. Support of AI by the government has injected great energy into development and research, and advances are appearing. In addition to successful business applications, the medical and healthcare sector is making positive impacts on disease and treatments, and the social sector has companies making the lives of the elderly better. World One Year On is about President Trump’s first year in office and accomplishments mentioned during his first State of the Union address. He claimed success in areas such as the economy, immigration reform, and diplomacy. But U.S. adjustment in its China policy is connected to China’s rapid economic growth and will need co-operation and mutual progress through a healthy rivalry that can benefit both. Nation Springing Into Action is about the enormous Spring Festival traffic rush, known as Chunyun and the unsung heroes of China’s railways. Chunyun is the largest human migration in the world and officials estimate that around 390 million passengers will travel by train this year. Extra trains have been added and railway staff will be tested, working long hours to get travelers to their family homes and back. Copyedited by Pamela Tobey Comments to linan@bjreview.com |
