On its path to exploring how to carry out socialism with Chinese characteristics, the Communist Party of China (CPC) has made remarkable achievements, always bearing in mind its original aspirations and founding mission, said Humberto Camilo Hernandez Suarez, Deputy Head of the Department of Organization and Cadre Policy, Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee.

Hernandez made his comments at a thematic session on an ongoing CPC educational campaign titled Staying True to our Founding Mission, which was hosted by the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC) in Zhengzhou, central China’s Henan Province, on June 27.

“Upholding the ideal and belief in socialism, we should never forget where we started,” Hernandez said, adding that Cuba and China share many similarities and that his country has much to learn from the CPC’s practice.

This was the first time the CPC introduced its intra-party educational campaign to foreign political parties since its 18th National Congress in 2012, with about 50 representatives of international parties from 19 countries in attendance.

During the session, Song Tao, IDCPC Minister, described the ongoing campaign, started on May 31, to the audience. “The campaign is being carried out to ensure that the CPC maintains its progressiveness, purity and vitality, and wins the support from the people while sustaining its long-term governance,” Song said.

The CPC has been the ruling party for seven decades, as this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. President Xi Jinping, also General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, has reiterated that the Party needs to pursue happiness for the Chinese people and strive for the cause of human progress.

Elia Tortolero, a Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party senator, said that since the world today brings both new challenges and opportunities, it is important for a country and its ruling party to cope with protectionism and unilateralism through multilateral cooperation. Thus, the CPC practice is particularly valuable and provides a useful reference for political parties around the world in capacity building and risk control.

Echoing Tortolero’s viewpoint, Song added that the CPC is willing to strengthen its own construction through exchanges and mutual learning with other political parties around the world to bring more benefits to the people.
