Chinese health authorities called for enhanced management of hospitals and treatment during a teleconference on May 4.

The National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) prohibited medical institutions from outsourcing departments and publishing fake medical advertisements.

The NHFPC also called on medical agencies to strengthen management of the clinical use of medical techniques.

The use of techniques that are not allowed in clinical practice under Chinese regulations, including an immunotherapy treatment using cells generated by a patient's own immune system, should be limited to research, the NHFPC said.

Health authorities have been urged to enhance supervision and crack down on illegal medical practices in hospitals within their jurisdictions.

Earlier this week, the country also launched a campaign to address the practice of hospital appointment scalping and online cappers.

From now to the end of the year, police will inspect major hospitals and their surroundings. Doctors are not allowed to add more appointments and all appointments must be strictly managed, according to the NHFPC, one of the departments taking part in the campaign.

The campaign follows the death of a college student who was given ineffective cancer treatment after seeing an advertisement on Chinese search engine Baidu that claimed a high success rate for the treatment.

The incident has outraged society. Baidu and the hospital, the Second Hospital of the Beijing Armed Police Corps, at which the college student underwent the treatment, are being investigated.
