Understanding China is a must
Editorial  ·  2022-05-09  ·   Source: NO.19 MAY 12, 2022

How will China develop? What kind of country will it grow into? Will it seek global hegemony?

These are some of the questions that confuse the West. Their answers vary across the international spectrum: Some support China, some are confident in its development trajectory, some worry about China, and others disapprove of it altogether.

All these reactions are understandable. After all, China is a huge country with a population of over 1.4 billion. With rapid economic growth and ever more comprehensive national power, China has become a force to be reckoned with. It's only natural to look at this new big man in town and question his motives.

China is on a development path with its own characteristics, making it impossible to analyze its achievements from the perspective of Western concepts and experiences. If the international community really wants more clear-cut answers to its questions, it first and foremost must learn to understand the workings of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

As the country's governing party, the CPC stands at the helm of China's destiny. Those who learn about the Party's origins, deeply rooted in Chinese history and culture, will understand how it creates its unique governing style, and drafts and implements policies. You have to know the past to understand the present—and the future.

Influenced by Confucianism for thousands of years, China pursues peace and advances economic and social growth through the concepts of openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation. The country seeks national rejuvenation by uniting its people in the spirit of self-confidence, self-reliance, and innovation.

With a broad and forward-looking mind, the CPC, and China under its leadership, are actively promoting the building of a community with a shared future for humanity. China is working hard to establish a platform for communication with the rest of the world, present its stories in open and transparent manner, and facilitate exchanges and cooperation with all parties. The country is committed to maintaining and improving the international order and system, upholds the banner of global governance and multilateralism, and opposes hegemonism.
