Although handicapped by the loss of two toes, Cering Dorjee continued his mountaineering career. In 1992, he became the head of an expedition team. His team was tasked with ascending the world's 14 tallest peaks, called the "eight-thousanders" for their altitudes of over 8,000 meters above sea level.
