Students at a middle school in quake-affected Ludian County, Yunnan Province, attend psychological counseling on September 1, the first day of the fall semester. A 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit the area on August 3, killing more than 600 people and destroying more than 80,000 buildings, including many schools. A total of 231 makeshift schools have been built in the quake zone. Students will receive training on earthquake safety, fire prevention and disaster reduction before they fully resume their lessons, according to local education authorities. (LIN YIGUANG)
