“On behalf of the Chinese Consulate General in New York, I’d like to extend my festive wishes to you on the arrival of the Year of the Tiger!” Huang Ping, Consul General of People’s Republic of China in New York, said during an online celebration for the approaching of Spring Festival and the Year of the Tiger.

According to Huang, though the past year did see the betterment of China-U.S. relations, bilateral cooperation also displayed the resilience and vitality of this relationship.

In a few weeks, China and the U.S. will commemorate the 50th anniversary of President Richard Nixon’s groundbreaking visit to China. “It is our sincere hope that our two countries will take the opportunity to learn from the past, look into the future and actively implement the consensus by our two presidents, finding the right way to get along with each other in the next 50 years to benefit the people of both countries and beyond,” Huang noted.

As the Beijing 2022 Games will open in a few days, “we look forward to upholding with you the Olympic Motto of ‘Faster, higher, stronger—together’ and presenting a streamlined safe and splendid Olympics to the world,” Huang said.

The Chinese Consulate General in New York invited people in the consular district to celebrate together during the event, express their good wishes to the Chinese as well as hopes for future Sino-U.S. cooperation and closer ties.

“It’s thought that people born in the year of the Tiger are very committed to helping others and have a strong sense of justice. When I think about my time as president of the World Bank Group, I remember very fondly the close working relationship I had with the Chinese Government and Chinese people. The foundation of that collaboration work was this shared sense of justice and a commitment to help others,” Jim Yong Kim, former president of the World Bank, said during the celebrations. Kim recalled his first trip to China when he had found himself deeply moved by the country’s rapid development. “Everybody wanted to know how China did that. How did China lift 800 million people out of absolute poverty?” Kim believed that the foundation of that effort hailed from a sense of justice and a commitment to helping others.
