Here's a breakdown of the types of private equity funds active in China:

· Independent investment funds such as the Carlyle Group and 3i;

· Direct investment divisions of large financial institutions such as Morgan Stanley Asia, JP Morgan Partners, Goldman Sachs Asia, CITIC Capital;

· Newly founded private equity funds, such as Hony Capital and Shenbin Capital, established after the release of regulations on Sino-foreign joint-venture investment funds;

· Investment funds from large companies, such as GE Capital.
