From November 2 to 10, 2007 Indonesia will host the 1st Asian Choir Games -- the Asian Pacific Olympics for Choirs. The 1st Asian Choir Games will be a great gathering of choirs, thousands of participants from many nations will turn the capital Jakarta into the center of the Asia Pacific choir music. Choirs will be competing in 21 different categories according to age, voice parts and different music genres.

Organizer of the Asian Choir Games is INTERKULTUR Germany in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Culture and Tourism and other authoritative institutions of the host country.

In the tradition of the World Choir Games, this new series of Asian Choir Games will account for the fact that Asia Pacific choir music is playing an increasing role in the international choral movement.

The Indonesian Minister for Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik, officially announced this event during a press conference in January in Jakarta and encouraged all choirs to participate. "I kindly invite singers from every country of the Asia Pacific region to join the 1st Asian Choir Games in Jakarta. I look forward to your participation and welcome everyone with great hospitality and warmness," the Minister said.
