Cuba on November 13 will submit for the consideration of the UN General Assembly a draft resolution urging the U.S. to lift its long-time blockade against the country, a senior diplomat said in Beijing on October 11.
Entitled "Necessity of Ending the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade Imposed by the United States of America Against Cuba," it will be the country's 21st consecutive resolution since 1992, said Alberto J. Blanco Silva, Cuban Ambassador to China.
The U.S. embargo against Cuba has been in effect since 1962. In 2011, 186 member states voted in favor of this resolution.
The direct economic damage to the Cuban people caused by the blockade amount to over $108 billion as of December last year, he said.
"The blockade policy is increasingly rejected both within the U.S. and by the international community. The U.S. must lift it immediately and unconditionally," he noted. |
