Beijing Review successfully launched the iPad app The Faces of Tibet on November 11.

The app contains 25 black-and-white photographs taken in Tibet by one of Beijing Review's most outstanding and influential photographers, Zonglie Chen. In The Faces of Tibet, Chen, now 81-years-old, also shares behind-the-scenes stories through video interviews in which he describes the tales behind his breathtaking catalogue of career highlights, such as climbing with the first Chinese mountaineering team to ascend Mount Everest and attending the Grand Summons in Lhasa.

Chen began his work as a photojournalist in Tibet back in 1956 when he was still only 24-years-old. With his camera, he made a record of all the major political, economic, religious and cultural events that took place in the region as he worked for Tibet Daily.

The Faces of Tibet presents some of Chen's precious photos from 1956 to 1961, selected by him give a portrayal of the mystery and wonder of Tibetan culture and to give an insight into the daily lives of those living in Tibet and how their lives changed during the region's democratic reforms.

The free app is available now on the iTunes App Store.
