Low Carbon Emissions Top Priority
Vice president of a U.S.-based nonprofit organization urges U.S. to be more like China

While the U.S. Government showed no intention to further cut its greenhouse gas emissions, China, on the other hand, has included efforts aimed at dealing with climate change among the country's top priorities, as stated in the recent resolutions revealed at the end of the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee.

"I heard mentions that carbon trading is a priority, and as a United States citizen I can only dream that our national government would make such a statement in one of our policy platforms," said Derek Walker, Associate Vice President with the Environmental Defense Fund.

In the United States, California is always accused of coping with climate change by itself and without the support of other states. However, during an event held at the China Pavilion on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference on November 18 in Warsaw, Poland, Walker said that he wanted to tell the rest of the U.S. populace that California is not alone, as it is collaborating with governments and leaders from other countries to address the climate issue together.

Walker urged the U.S. federal government to work prospectively and aggressively on climate change policies that will make a difference in people's lives.
