World Expositions are galleries of human inspiration and thought. Since 1851, when the Great Exhibition of Industries of All Nations was held in London, the World Expo has gained increasing prominence as a grand event for economic, scientific, technological and cultural exchange, serving as an important platform for displaying historical experience, exchanging innovative ideas, demonstrating morale and looking to the future.
In 1876, the Philadelphia Expo was held in the United States. China sent a delegation led by a government official, Li Gui, to participate in the Expo. After the Philadelphia Expo, the organizing committee allowed countries to set up independent exhibition pavilions to gradually replace the original theme pavilions.
In 1878, the China Pavilion, a structure with Chinese characteristics, appeared at the Exposition Universelle de Paris 1878. Teas, bronzeware, china, and many other goods were sold in the China Pavilion.
In 1889, the Exposition Universelle de Paris, a spectacular gala, took place. At this Expo, the Eiffel Tower and many other influential inventions were first unveiled to the public. China sent a delegation to this Expo and set up a Chinese Pavilion.
