U.S. State Secretary Visits Shanghai World Expo

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited Shanghai World Expo Saturday, calling the tour to the expo and the Chinese pavilion was "a wonderful experience."

Clinton also held talks with the youth from China and the United States at the U.S. Pavilion in the Expo Park, saying she was happy to see so many energetic young people with bilingual skills.

She also visited the Chinese Pavilion accompanied by Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng.

At a meeting with Yu Zhengsheng, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, in Shanghai Saturday, Clinton said she would keep a fond memory of Shanghai World Expo.

Yu said through the Expo the Chinese people could know more about other parts of the world and the other parts of the world would also better understand China.

"Improved understanding will enhance wide cooperation," said Yu, who hoped that more American companies would expand business in Shanghai.

Clinton said the relations between the American and Chinese governments are essential and the exchanges between their peoples are the important foundation for a positive future of bilateral ties.

Clinton arrived in Shanghai in a special plane Friday night.

Besides a visit to Shanghai, Clinton will also attend the second China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue in Beijing scheduled for Monday and Tuesday as U.S. President Barack Obama's special representative.
