Zhang Wenyue has replaced Li Keqiang as secretary of the Liaoning Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), according to the CPC Central Committee on Monday.

Li Keqiang has been elected a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Zhang has served as the governor of Liaoning Province in northeast China since February 2004.

Born in October 1944 in southeast China's Fujian Province, Zhang joined the CPC in 1965 and served as deputy governor and acting governor of Liaoning before being appointed as the governor of Liaoning.
