Latest Tests Show Infant Formula Milk Safe
China's infant formula milk and other milk powder products met the new interim restrictions on melamine

China's quality watchdog said Tuesday the latest tests showed that the country's infant formula milk and other milk powder products met the new interim restrictions on melamine.

The tests covered 152 batches of baby formula milk from 25 brands in eight provincial areas, and 165 batches of other milk powder products from 39 brands in 12 provincial areas, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said.

The agency has tested 1,488 batches of baby formula from 78 brands and 2,100 batches of other milk powder products from 178 brands produced after September 14. All the samples were tested in line with the new limit, it said.

The country set temporary limits on melamine content in dairy products last month. The limits were a maximum of 1 mg of melamine per kg of infant formula and a maximum 2.5 mg per kg for liquid milk, milk powder and food products containing at least 15 percent of milk.
