The Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) discussed on Tuesday a draft of the committee's work report, which will be delivered to the upcoming annual session of the full conference.

The committee members said following a few additional amendments the report is ready for the upcoming annual session of the Tenth CPPCC National Committee, where it will be made public.

The committee also discussed a draft work report on the proposals submitted by CPPCC members.

Known as the government's "think tank", CPPCC members are activists, experts, scholars and public figures from various walks of life.

The main function of the CPPCC is to conduct political consultations, exercise democratic supervision and discuss the handling of state affairs.

Sources with the CPPCC said since March, 2006, the eight special committees under the CPPCC National Committee have submitted 44 research reports and suggestions to the central government, covering the economy, politics, culture and social affairs.

The reports and suggestions help the central government in its decision making process, the sources said.

The Tenth CPPCC National Committee will start its fifth annual plenary session on March 3.
