IOC Coordination Commission Holds Ninth Plenary Session in Beijing

The Coordination Commission for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad began its ninth plenary session here on Tuesday.

The three-day meeting will involve discussions between BOCOG officials and the members of the Coordination Commission regarding the Olympic Games preparations, including marketing, ticketing, media services, human resources, spectators, medical services, and various aspects of the Paralympic Games.

Addressing the meeting, BOCOG Executive President Liu Peng conveyed Beijing's commitment to doing an outstanding job as host of next year's Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Liu, who is minister of the General Administration of Sports and president of the Chinese Olympic Committee, observed that the competition venues, ticketing, media services, the Paralympic Games, and other Olympic preparation areas have progressed efficiently, saying that the foundation for a "safe Olympics" was already in place. He also emphasized that BOCOG would continue to work with IOC and the Coordination Commission to step up the level of the preparations.

Coordination Commission Chairman Hein Verbruggen, delighted to be in Beijing once again, commended Beijing and BOCOG for their contributions to the Olympic Games preparations. He noted that the preparation period has reached a critical phase and assured everybody that IOC would work closely with BOCOG and Beijing during this time to give the world a "high-level Olympics with distinguishing features."

Liu Jingmin, vice mayor of Beijing and BOCOG executive vice-president, reported on the progress of the Olympic Games preparations.

Present at the meeting was Deng Pufang, president of the China Disabled Persons' Federation and executive president of BOCOG. Nearly 100 members from BOCOG, the coordination commission, IOC Athletes' Commission, national and local government departments, including BOCOG executive vice-presidents Wang Wei, Duan Shijie, Jiang Xiaoyu, Li Binghua, Yang Shu'an and Tang Xiaoquan, and BOCOG executive member He Zhenliang, attended the meeting.
