The Digital Beijing Building, a comprehensive information facility for the Beijing Olympic Games, was delivered for use on Saturday.

Construction of the project, the first to be inaugurated among the projects in the Olympic central zone, started on June 20, 2005. Occupying a land surface of 16,000 square meters, it has a construction area of 96,518 square meters. With a height of 57 meters, the 11-storey building comprises of a communication equipment room, office and business rooms, and auxiliary facilities.

As a government data and Olympic technical support center, the building will provide communication and information services and guarantee information security during the Olympic Games. It will become an information service center for the municipal government's data storage, information security, emergency-response command and information service, as well as a communication hub connecting the Olympic central zone and the adjacent areas.

The building embodies the concepts of "Green Olympics," "High-Tech Olympics," and "People's Olympics." To protect the environment, it used such materials and technologies as the fair-faced concrete and outdoor ERP grid. Its glass curtain wall can reduce thermal conduction and its LED lighting system can save as much as 60 percent of energy. The building also has a rainwater collection mechanism.

The accessible facilities are evident in the building, enabling the disabled to move conveniently. Its communication equipment can meet individualized communication requirements for any time, to any place and in any form, and its design integrates the Games-time and post-Games needs.
