The Olympic village in Beijing partially opened for business on Sunday to vehicles with Olympic permits
 

The Olympic village in Beijing partially opened for business on Sunday to vehicles with Olympic permits, beginning the first step of its official operation, according to a report on Chinanews.com.cn

At present, the Olympic village, which will provide accommodations and recreational facilities to 16,000 Olympic competitors, cannot be accessed by vehicles without special permits. All driveways to the complex are blockaded, the report said.

Shuttle buses will transport offiicals, athletes and journalists once an hour from the Main Press Center and International Broadcast Center to the Olympic village from 7:50 a.m.- 8:50 p.m. after its official opening on July 27. After that date, the busses will run every half-hour during the Games.
