Constantina Tomescu of Romania won the gold medal in women's marathon at the Beijing Olympic Games on Sunday.

The 38-year-old Tomescu clocked 2 hours, 26 minutes and 44 seconds for the top honor. Catherine Ndereba of Kenya won the silver. Zhou Chunxiu of China finished the third in 2 hours, 27 minutes and 7 seconds, or her second personal best. Zhou's teammate Zhu Xiaolin finished the fourth.

World record holder Paula Radcliffe of Great Britain, who just recovered from injuries, ranked the 23rd.
