The Chengjiang Fossil Site was listed at the 36th World Heritage Conference in St. Petersburg, Russia, on July 1. Paleontologist Hou Xianguang discovered animal fossils in Chengjiang in 1984, and over the past 20 years, scientists have found about 200 fossils, including two-meter-long shrimp, nine-eyed microdictyons, and even Yunnanocephalus, an extinct genus of trilobite which existed 530 to 524 million years ago (XINHUA) |
