  • PLAYING TOGETHER: Local Miao representatives from Guizhou's Huangping County. Huangping, in the southeast Guizhou, has a population of 350,000, 62 percent of whom are ethnic minorities (CHEN RAN)

  • BIG BREATH: Local Miao people from Guizhou's Majiang County. Majiang is in the upper reaches of the 459-km-long Qingshuijiang River in Guizhou. The county has a population of 218,400 and 80.23 percent is of ethnic minority group (CHEN RAN)

The Guzang Festival opened in Leishan County in Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Ethnic Group Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China's Guizhou Province on November 10.

According to the Miao calendar, this New Year (around November 10) coincided with the Guzang Festival (Gu means drum, Zang means to bury), one of the grandest festivals of the Miao people, held only once every 13 years to commemorate their ancestors
