Lhaze Zong Castle

 
The Lhaze Zong Castle (1957). Zong originally meant castle or stronghold. After Qamqoi Gyaincain became Tibet King in 1358, he proclaimed a series of laws and reform policies. Among them, the establishment of the Zong exerted great influence on later generations. He abolished the 10,000-household system during the rule of Sagya Prince of Dharma and set up 13 Zong to replace the previous 13 10,000-household Offices. A Zongboin (analogous to county magistrate) was appointed to administer each Zong. Lhaze Zong is the starting point of the water traffic on the upper Brahmaputra. Departing from Lhaze, one took five days to reach Xigaze, then Qushui Zongin the middle of the river eastward. The river and Lhasa River converge in Lhasa. It finally reaches where the Yarlung Zangbo River makes it U-turn
