The framed black-and-white photo, grouping 19 images, shows part of the moon's highland that is mainly composed of plagioclase, a common rock-forming element. The covered area is about 460 km in length and 280 km in width.

"Chinese people's dream of flying to the moon for more than 1,000 years has started to materialize," said Wen at the unveiling ceremony.

Chang'e-1 was launched on October 24 and began to orbit the moon on November 7.
