TIES START WITH THE YOUTH

Chinese President Hu Jintao waters a tree with a Japanese girl to inaugurate the China-Japan Friendly Exchange Year of the Youth in Beijing on March 15.

Hu says that a long-lasting friendship between young people from the two countries is key to ensuring strengthened bilateral ties in the generations to come.

More than 2,000 youngsters from China and Japan attended the inaugural ceremony in the prestigious Renmin University of China.
