Pedestrians and vehicles inch their way through water-logged streets in Shantou City, south China's Guangdong Province, after torrential rains caused by Typhoon Neoguri flooded the city on April 20.

Three people were killed by mudslides and gales caused by Neoguri in Guangdong and the island of Hainan Province, local government officials said.

The violent tropical storm, the first to hit China this year, landed in Guangdong's Jiangmen City on April 19 with heavy rains and strong winds, forcing 274,000 locals to relocate and damaging 7,000 hectares of farmland.

According to the South China Sea Rescue Bureau, 40 Chinese and Vietnamese fishermen from three vessels operating offshore Hainan Island were still missing as of April 22 after their boats had sunk.
