8-Percent Growth at Hand
Robust growth in the first half of this year will bring the Chinese economy closer to reaching the government's goal of 8-percent GDP growth

Zhu agreed with the SIC report, saying when the government adopted the massive stimulus package, to achieve an 8-percent GDP growth was not its only target. The government also hoped the new economic structure would be healthier than before. Along with economic recovery, policy focus should be shifted from "sparing no effort to protect growth" to "attaching greater importance to structural reform and cultivating a new growth engine," he said. It will nonetheless be difficult to shift the economic growth pattern overnight.
