A Shanghai shopping mall's support columns are colorfully decorated in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

In addition to celebrations across the country, a grand military parade and a pageant involving 200,000 people are scheduled in downtown Beijing's Tiananmen Square on October 1 to showcase the country's rapid development over the past six decades.
