China and Pakistan

China pledged to provide a grant of 50 million yuan ($7.4 million) to Pakistan for new projects during Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari's recent visit to China.

The two countries also signed an agreement on economic and technical cooperation as well as memorandums of understanding in the fields of health, geological surveying and agriculture.

In response to Pakistan's quest for new energy sources, China's National Energy Administration will work out modalities of addressing Pakistan's energy needs with Pakistani authorities, Xinhua News Agency quoted a spokesman of the Pakistani president as saying.

The two countries have decided to hold a meeting of the Pakistan-China Joint Economic Forum in Islamabad in the near future. Participants will discuss a wide ranging of issues including currency swaps and Chinese banks' opening of branches in Pakistan.

China and Pakistan also agreed to improve trade, transportation and logistics systems for enhanced regional connectivity.

On July 6-11, Zardari paid his fifth visit to China since taking office in 2008.

China and Argentina

China and Argentina signed 18 agreements in Beijing on July 13 during Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner's first state visit to China.

The agreements covered areas ranging from transportation infrastructure to fisheries, plant quarantine and energy.

China will invest $10 billion in 10 railway projects in Argentina in the next two to five years. The two countries will cooperate on Argentina's light rail, subway and rail line electrification projects.

China will also provide export buyer's credit to Argentina to finance locomotive purchases.

China is ready to take joint measures with Argentina to stabilize and expand bilateral trade and investment, Chinese President Hu Jintao told Kirchner at their meeting. It supports Argentina's efforts to diversify its exports to China while welcoming greater imports of products and investment from the Latin American country.
