Chinese President Hu Jintao (center) speaks with workers at an organic vegetable greenhouse in an eastern suburb of Beijing on December 29, 2010. The vegetable production base supplies the Beijing market with 7.5 million kg of produce annually.

Hu also visited low-income families in eastern Beijing to inspect the operation of government-subsidized housing projects for needy people. He also inspected a heating plant in the eastern part of the city and encouraged its engineers and workers to work hard to guarantee the comfort of nearby residents throughout the winter.
