Passengers anxiously check ticket information on January 10 at the railway station in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

It was the first day railway tickets for the heavy Spring Festival 2011 travel period went on sale. The Chengdu train station opened about 100 ticket windows to meet passenger demand.

The 2011 Spring Festival travel period lasts for 40 days. The number of individual road trips nationwide is expected to reach 2.6 billion, and the rail system is expected to carry 230 million people during this period.
