Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda delivered a speech at Peking University on Friday.

Before the speech he met with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, saying Japan does not support the attempts of Taiwan authorities to seek UN membership through "referendum" or any changes to the status quo in cross-Straits relations.

Both sides also reached a consensus on the East China Sea issue during their talks. They expressed a willingness to continue to adhere to the five-point agreement achieved by the leaders of the two countries in April 2007, which called for cooperation and friendship in the East China Sea.

Yasuo Fukuda arrived in Beijing on Thursday afternoon for the start of an official visit, which runs through Dec. 30. During the visit, he will also visit a primary school in Beijing and tour the neighboring city of Tianjin, as well as swinging through Qufu in Shandong Province, the hometown of Confucius.
