A New Vacation Plan Introduced
After a year of deliberation and an online poll, the Chinese Government adopted a major overhaul to the country's eight-year-old national holiday system on December 7. It canceled the weeklong May Day holiday, added three traditional festivals, the Tomb-sweeping Festival, Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival, to national holidays, and raised the number of paid holiday days to 11 from 10. A regulation giving people more freedom over when to take their own holidays was adopted on the same day.
