The 2011 FUN Music Festival was held on August 26-28 at Changyang Island in southern Beijing.

Featuring Beijing style, the festival has invited artists and bands from home and abroad, including Wang Feng and Li Jian from the Chinese mainland, Zhao Chuan and Julie Su from Taiwan, and Your Favorite Enemies from Canada.

Wang Bintong, a music fan, is a high school student coming from Fuxin City in northeast China's Liaoning Province.

"I'm coming here all the way from my hometown just for the music festival. I'm looking forward to it for a long time. I'm having fun here and meeting a lot of friends," Wang said.

Besides music, the festival also offered entertainment activities including recreation for kids, outdoor camping, and a creative market.

Music festivals, big or small, have become a trend in the Chinese cultural marketplace in recent years. Canadian rock band Your Favorite Enemies has played 13 huge shows in Chinese cities including Zhengzhou, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Guangzhou in May this year.

"I think [the music festival] is blooming. It's amazing to see different styles. That's what I love. Sometimes we played different music festivals in Europe. Sometimes it's always the same type of music. But here what I love is diversity. People are coming here. It's all about having fun. It's all about sharing. It doesn't matter what type of music you love. It's all about discovering different artists. It's all about having a good time. That's what I love about China," said Alex Foster.

Taiwan-based rock star Zhao Chuan, also known as Chief Chao, has been performing for nearly 24 years and has released 13 albums. This was his first time joining an outdoor music festival on the Chinese mainland.

"The music festival reminds me of my early years when I started a rock band, because the music festival can bring the relatively purer music. The audiences are standing near the stage, so that we can feel their love for music directly," said Zhao.

Over 100,000 people came to the music festival this year, according to the organizer.

The first FUN Music Festival was held on September 21-23 last year, attracting an audience of over 50,000.
