EU to Focus on Growth in G20 Summit
Share

The discussion of global economy and framework for growth will be high on agenda of the G20 Summit, said a European Union (EU) statement on Friday.

"In this context the situation in the euro area will be an important issue for discussion in this year's G20 Summit. We will bring to bear the EU's determined action to deliver a comprehensive response to the sovereign debt crisis," said a letter issued by European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.

According to the letter, the EU would focus on challenges in vulnerable countries, growth through structural reform and differentiated and growth-friendly fiscal consolidation, apart from strengthening euro area financial firewalls, funding and recapitalizing banks, and strengthening economic governance in the euro area.

Van Rompuy and Barroso also stressed their commitments to safeguarding financial stability in eurozone, as well as its integrity. "We will also make clear that we want Greece to remain in the euro area while respecting its commitments," the statement added.
