The twin giant panda cubs born in July at Zoo Atlanta in the U.S. have been named Mei Lun and Mei Huan.

Zoo officials made the announcement on Wednesday. The names originate from a Chinese idiom that means "something indescribably beautiful and magnificent."

The names were selected by staff at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China. People voted on several possible names on the website for ABC's "Good Morning America" television show.

The cubs were born to 15-year-old Lun Lun, who was artificially inseminated in March. They are the fourth and fifth cubs to be born at the zoo to Lun Lun and her partner Yang Yang. Under a deal between China and the U.S., giant pandas originally from China are only lent to foreign zoos for scientific study for several years.
