UN Climate Conference Opens in Warsaw
Share

The devastation caused by typhoon Haiyan cast a gloom over UN climate talks in Warsaw on November 11. The envoy from the Philippines broke down in tears and called on the world to act.

Thousands of representatives from nearly 200 countries gathered in the Polish capital's national stadium for the two-week negotiations.

Polish Environment Minister Marcin Korolec was elected president of the session, pledging the utmost efforts to reach global consensus. He said transparency and an inclusive process were his top priorities.

The Philippines' climate change commissioner and lead negotiator said action must be taken now.
