H7N9 Vaccine Proves Effective on Lab Mice

Researchers in Shanghai have developed a genetically-engineered vaccine for the H7N9 virus. The prototype vaccine has passed preliminary testing in laboratory mice.

All 30 of the mice in the study survived and tested negative for the virus 30 days after with the vaccine, and then with the virus. Researchers are now applying to launch clinical experiments.

Research and development is also underway for the creation of antibodies against the H7N9 virus. This work could lead to a cure for those already infected. China has stepped up research for an H7N9 vaccine in the face of the growing threat.
