China's Role in Maintaining Regional Nuclear Security
Share

President Xi Jinping will explain China's views on nuclear security at the upcoming Nuclear Security Summit. Experts say China could play a more constructive role in maintaining regional nuclear security.

Leaders from more than 50 countries and international organizations will gather in The Hague to focus on nuclear security and the prevention of nuclear terrorism.

The Nuclear Security Summit has become an important platform to address these issues, since its first meeting in Washington in 2010.

Developing nuclear energy safely to support social and economic development has been an important topic for the international community.

China will explain its commitment and responsibility to achieve this.

Professor Fan, Deputy Director of Center for Arms Control and Nonproliferation of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, says that China has strict protocols when it comes to nuclear security, with stricter supervision of nuclear facilities and personnel.

China expects its efforts to help advance the economy and society, and contribute to world peace and security.

Fan believes that China could do more in maintaining the nuclear security in Asia-Pacific region.

It will be Xi's first presence at the Nuclear Security Summit; he will demonstrate China's diplomatic efforts in the nuclear security arena. China hopes participants will reach new consensus and promote international cooperation on nuclear security, improve the security level of nuclear materials and facilities, and advance rational development of nuclear energy.
