Nanjing 2014: Existing Venues to Be Used to Cut Costs

With Nanjing Youth Olympics' opening ceremony only 11 days away, all the major venues are now ready, and one of the key themes about these sites is austerity.

Of the 35 venues that will be used during the Youth Olympics, most of them were built before last year's Asian Youth Games. The only new building is the Youth Olympic Sports Park in Pukou District. After the Games, the park will be handed to Nanjing citizens, as a legacy of the Olympics.

Nanjing 2014 has one of the most complex communication networks in Youth Olympic history. All the sporting venues, 15 non-sporting venues, and the Media Center are connected by more than 820,000 meters of cable.

With the Ebola outbreak continuing to cause concern around the world, Nanjing organizers are stepping up prevention measures. All patients showing signs of fever will be closely monitored, and quarantined if necessary.

Beginning on August 10, clinics in the Youth Olympic Village will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and a separate room will be reserved for anyone suffering from fever.
