2011 Beijing International Sudoku Tournament Concludes
Share

The two-day 2011 Beijing International Sudoku Tournament has concluded in Beijing. It was the first time for Beijing to host the tournament. After a weekend spent crunching numbers, Jakub Ondrousek from the Czech Republic won the championship.

Sudoku is a popular number placement game. It originates from Chinese nine-grid number placement game. Rules for the modern version of sudoku were set by the Japanese during the 1980s.

Sudoku is a game where you fill in the puzzle so that each 3x3 grid contains the numbers one to nine only once. It requires quite a lot of logical thinking.

Jakub finished his sudoku nearly two minutes ahead of his closest competitor. Surprisingly, he only started playing the game about five years ago.

Jakub said he enjoyed a lot during the process of solving a sudoku, from simple ones to difficult ones. And he said, this is his first championship.

Chen Cen, ranking No.1 in China and No.7 in the world, designed all the 68 puzzles of this tournament. Besides standard puzzles, she also included some conditional types, which were a special feature of this tournament.
