On April 6, Chinese Ambassador to Namibia Zhang Yiming met with Sophia Shaningwa, General Secretary of the SWAPO Party, the ruling party of Namibia, and exchanged views on strengthening exchanges and cooperation between the two parties.

Zhang said that the CPC and the SWAPO Party have a long history of friendly relations, dating back to the 1960s. This year is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, and China is willing to take this opportunity to strengthen the exchange of experience in governance and cooperation between the two parties.

Zhang also thanked the SWAPO Party for issuing a statement on the 46th Session of the Human Rights Council in February this year on issues related to Xinjiang and Hong Kong, and for supporting China’s position on related issues, which fully reflects the close relationship between the two parties and the two countries.

Shaningwa said that the SWAPO Party and the CPC are comrades and brothers in need, and that mutual support on major issues embodies the deep relationship between the two parties. The SWAPO Party has always believed that the development of friendly relations with the CPC is beneficial to both peoples and it is willing to continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation.

In particular, the vaccines donated by China arrived in Namibia in March and the vaccination program was launched with China’s support, which highlighted the trust of the Namibian side in the Chinese vaccine and strengthened the confidence of the people in overcoming the virus.

After the meeting, Zhang handed over the embassy’s donation of masks and other supplies to the SWAPO Party, and Shaningwa expressed her gratitude to the Chinese embassy for its generous support in a timely manner.

On March 25, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Lu Kun met with Freddie Blay, Chairman of the NPP, the ruling party of Ghana, and exchanged views on the relationship between the two parties and issues of common concern.
